Wealth and dominion fade into the mass
Of the great sea of human right and wring,
When once from our possession they must pass;
But love, trough misdirected, is among
The things which are immortal, and supass
All that frail stuff which will be-or which was.

Ricchezze e signorie scompaiono nella massa
Del grande mare del giusto e dell’ingiusto umano,
quando è la volta che il nostro possesso scada;
ma l’amore, anche se mal diretto, è tra quelle
cose che sono immortali, e sorpassano
tutta quella fragile materia che saremo - o siamo stati.
