ABSTRACT
Research and Innovation (Maurizio Sombrero)
The European Council of Lisbon considers the
UE Countries' improvement in being qualified
to give raise to Research and Innovation as
a chief factor in order to create economic competitiveness.
Nevertheless, after four years, situation at
European level is still quite difficult, especially
for Italy. The article contemplates a survey
from EIS (European Innovation Scoreboard): all
the information collected show a small group
of European Countries that are remarkably competitive,
with regard to Innovation (among them Germany,
Denmark, Finland, Sweden and United Kingdom).
As regards Italy, the most important thing to
be worried about concerns private Companies
and their investment in Research and Development:
the result is that this investment is below
European average of about 60%, while the investment
in high technology is below of 20%.
Furthermore, in order to face these challenges,
Italian private Companies are not able to get
skilled human resources, since people graduated
in scientific and economic doctrines are considerably
below (45%) European average.
